I've just got home from an extremely busy 12 hour shift. There has been a bit of a theme today; falls, RTCs and overdoses (for some reason?). Our A&E ward was full of little old ladies who have fallen over and sustained a soft tissue injury. Minors was full of people who had broken bones, soft tissue injuries and lacerations. Majors was mostly abdo pains, RTC victims and ODs. Most of which are due to the snow.
If I wasn't at work today, I wouldn't have left the house, simply because it's too damn cold! And I know, because I know myself very well, that no matter how suitable my footwear is, no matter how I avoid stepping onto ice, and no matter how good my balance is, at some point I will fall over. That's me. In fact I'm shocked that I didn't fall over on the way to and from work.
Snow reminds me of death. Every time (and I mean every time) it has snowed since I was 14, I have either got dumped or someone I know has died. The snow appears to be passing, and if it clears tomorrow, this may well be *touches wood* the first time in 5 years that something bad hasn't happened during the snow. I can imagine myself ringing everyone I know in the next few days, just to make sure they're ok. Whenever I see the snow first coming down, I feel like a little kid again, and I get really excited, but then I remember what the snow brings, and I get a lump in my throat that tells me something bad is going to happen. I hope I haven't just jinxed it. *Frantically tries to find that wooden thing again*
I'm not expecting many replies, if at all, but I invite any readers to comment... Have you fallen over yet? Am I not alone in weather conditions seemingly influencing my life? Or am I just a clumsy fruitcake. It's probably a bit of all three.

Hi Lumo!
ReplyDeleteI can only say that snow brings snow ball fights, sledging and getting three kids out of wet clothes before they become hypothermic. I have been on Annual Leave last week and this week and so have missed being at work and out and about in the bad weather. (woo hoo!!)
I hope you are going to let us know that the curse has finally been broken (fingers crossed)
Take Care.

Think happy thoughts, my friend, and happiness will follow. Unless, of course, you are cursed, then all the happy thoughts in the world won't help, but that isn't a very happy thought at all!
